S(o)now it begins…

In most other parts of the country, March is the first month of spring, when the daffodils begin to blossom and buds begin to appear on the trees.

In Finland, March is called maaliskuu, which originates from maallinen kuu, meaning earthy month, because during maaliskuu, earth finally became visible under the snow. (Courtesy of Wikipedia: so apologies if it’s wrong!)

But not here in Wyoming.

From what I’m told, March is the beginning of “real” winter, which will continue through April and sometimes, possibly even into May.

Old Man Winter let us newbies to Wyoming know that he means business.

The wet snow and wind started yesterday afternoon and continued through the night, leaving an accumulation of only about 4-6 inches of heavy wet stuff, more in some places where it drifts.

I was leaving downtown late yesterday afternoon to pick up the teenager, and with the wind blowing in some parts and the slushy stuff causing slippy spots, I realized that a snow like this would have closed down the Mid-Atlantic area.

That is, of course, before they became the “snow capital” and the hardy snow-surviving folk of this past winter.

Anyway, looks like winter is upon us in this part of the country.

But that’s okay.

It was, after all, what I was told to expect.

And besides, I am a "Frontier Woman," who's learning to acclimate and accept.

Finally, because the bright Wyoming sun is shinning full and bright today.
